An Introduction to God, Angels, and Humanity

Updated: Aug 1

This post intends to serve as the beginning of a discussion about God. Its basis is the Holy Scriptures, and the discussion conforms to the declaration of faith of the Church of God:

God is the only divinity. He is a trinity of persons: God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. His gender is male. He does not need or does/has there exist(ed) a female counterpart. The Godhead (Trinity) is ordered. The Father is first, then the Son and the Spirit. The Father sends the Son. The Son sends the Spirit. The Spirit empowers believers to become conformed to the image of God, among other things. God is transcendent regarding His creation. This means He is beyond and apart from His creation not a part of it. He is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipresent (present everywhere), omnipotent (all-powerful), and immutable (unchanging). He also possesses complete foreknowledge of the history of His creation from beginning to end, including His actions. Another way of saying this is that He possesses all knowledge. Some people have a problem with this. They think it means people do not have free will, but God does not use knowledge about what people will do to force them into doing it.

Consider two examples, Abimelech who Abraham deceived (Genesis 20), and Pharaoh (Exodus 7-14). Abimelech was a God-fearer, not a believer. He had morals that Abraham did not think he would. God helped Abimelech so he did not sin. Pharaoh thought of himself as the son of Ra and his hardened heart was due to his unbelief. When God says he hardened Pharaoh's heart, it took only His inaction to bring it about since Pharaoh was naturally that way. Both were recipients of God's oversight and each did according to their own free will.

Angels and humanity are His creation, as are all things. Angels are eternal and of greater power than humanity. The Bible does not depict any female angels. Humanity consists of males and females. The human spirit does not die. Both angels and humanity consist of rebels and righteous individuals. Fallen angels and fallen humans have the same fate as do those who remain faithful to God. The faithful enjoy the new Genesis described in Revelation 22.
